I’m sharing something a little different today! I’ve probably mentioned our allotment before in previous blog posts. I’m not sure how much that term is used outside of the UK so just to explain this is like a community garden but we pay a annual rent to have a small plot of land. Most people grow fruit and vegetables, sometimes because they don’t have their own garden (like us) or when they don’t want to turn their home’s garden into a vegetable plot!
So we’ve had our allotment for a few years now and we grow a mix of vegetables and fruit. It’s been a bumper year which has meant we’ve had a glut of most things. But the biggest glut has been our fruit and we’ve had so much we’ve struggled to eat and store it all. So I decided it would be fun to document the glut this year and during one of the jam making sessions I made sure to take some photos.
Starting on the left hand page I included a photo of the jam being put into jars. Next to that is a project life card I made from a die cut from Studio Calico kit and a cardboard strawberry. The strawberry is from a promo flyer I got in the post and I'd kept it as I thought I might be able to use it for something. To finish off the card I used the ‘the struggle is real yo’ stamp from Kellie Stamps new ‘What?’ stamp set.
To add some journalling I used part of a project life card from the July Messy box and added lines underneath using a dotted line stamp. Next to that is a photo of some vodka we bought to try making blackcurrant liqueur, as even after making the jam we still had lots of blackcurrants left over.
On the right hand side I used step-by-step photos of the jam as it was being made. I added different pieces of project life cards that I felt matched the spread and I also went for patterns that mirrored the seedy pattern on the cardboard strawberry. To two of the squares I also added stamping ‘Busy Making’ and ‘This is my jam’. Also on one square I used a plastic square that I received in a past Studio Calico kit. I covered up the middle that said ‘THU’ by stapling a rubber lemon embellishment that came in last months Studio Calico Project Life kit.
