Later than I hoped I’m sharing the first pages from my Week in the Life album. This project didn’t go as smoothly as I’d hoped! I enjoyed the actual week and taking the photos (most of the time), but when it came to putting it altogether I think I’d underestimated what would be involved. And I’ve also come to the conclusion that (for me at least) this needs to be a hybrid project. But I might write a separate post about what I learnt and what I’d do different next time - to both remind myself and also maybe help anyone else whose struggling with putting their album together.
One of the biggest stumbling blocks I had were my journalling cards. I had an idea that I really liked but when I’d started stamping them I had a nightmare with a certain brand's blotchy inks (I know it was the ink as the stamps have been fine with other inks). I just wasn’t happy with the look but I couldn’t tell it that was me being a perfectionist or them really not being good enough! Finally this weekend I decided to try re-making the cards digitally and I was much happier with the results.
So onto the actual pages. This post will be a bit longer as I explain some of the things I plan to repeat throughout the album:
Title page - I created this in photoshop using the 'M-S stamp' from Kellie.Stamps new October digital release ‘Jan-Sunday’. I then added a square with a border, the text WITL and the dates the week covered. I'm using Ali Edwards ‘What today looked like’ stamp set throughout the album so I used the ‘story of this week’ stamp, once I'd printed the page, to tie it in with the rest of my album. And finally added a grey chipboard star to give a little bit of dimension.
First page of the day - all my days start with a 6x8 photo. They are photos that I liked or that I felt represented the day. On each I added the day of the week using a PNG file that came with Paislee Press’s Days journalling cards set, then I added the date underneath.
Weekday cards - I decided to add a filler/embellishment card to each day that is a patterned journal card with a wooden letter added and sometimes another embellishment as well.
Main Journal cards - the idea that was causing me problems was that I wanted to make journal cards that had one word to describe the story I was telling, then under that a sentiment or word that tied in with it and finally the actual journalling. I created a template in photoshop with the larger grey text and then the smaller journalling text below. I still added stamping after the cards were printed as a lot of the stamps I wanted to use I didn’t have digitally, so when I set up the template I made sure to leave space for the extra stamping.
Last page of the day - these are also always 6x8. Originally I printed these without text but I decided that they needed something more so I made the decision to reprint these after adding digital stamps and some journalling.
Kellie.Stamps digital October releases - ‘Jan-Sunday’ and ‘I Am’, Digital cards, stamps and embellishments from Ali Edwards Build Story Stamp and Story Kit (the kit is no longer available but you can buy the digital stamps), ‘What today looked like’ stamp set also from Ali Edwards, Days 3x4 Journal Cards from Paislee Press, ‘Currently’ Embellishment Kit from Color Cast Designs, Project Life cards and embellishments from previous Studio Calico kits.
