Last year I took a photo of the presents I’d bought for my husband arranged on a white background. While it’s a ‘staged’ photo (or flat lay) it’s a nice way to focus on the object you want to tell a story about. And I’ve found myself doing that more this year like my photos for days 5 and 6. On day 5 we received a personalised card using a photo taken with family earlier in the year. I really loved this individual touch so took a photo on our white table. I can’t remember now if I intentionally took the photo with extra space of edited that way but in photoshop I used part of a digital stamp and the number 5 is a cork number that I painted white. The journal card is a digital one from the Paislee Press kit with some white space added for the journaling which is for both days. The number 6 is from the main kit which I embossed with a gold glitter. My 'staged' photo for day 6 let me to document a few different things in one photo; the Christmas decoration I put together, the lights I bought and the Christmas cards we were sending out.
I managed to take no photos on day 7 but luckily Andy did so I used one of his from his walk around London. The journaling card was text added to a plain 3x4 document in Photoshop and I left space at the top to add a stamp. I stamped it and it was all looking great until I realised I’d stamped the wrong day! I managed to salvage the card by adding a scrap of card over the top with the correct day stamped on it! I then covered up the join with silver glitter tape. The filler card for 7 is another from the digital version of the Paislee Press kit but changed to a black background with white trees. And the number 7 is a large grey one from Studio Calico that I embossed with red glitter.
Day 8 was all about making it through the working day when I felt pretty sick and was drinking lots of cups of tea to try and soothe my throat. I took a photo of my mug (again on my white table) and made sure I left room for journaling. I’d originally thought of adding my number 8 for the day in the circle of the mug. But in the Jasmine Jones kit there is a great graphic with ‘Have a cup of cheer’. It was a journal card so to turn it into a digital brush I cropped the card to pick out just the text part and then selected the colour around the text and deleted it, which turned it transparent. It wasn’t perfect as the selection tool missed a few bits but when placed over the tea it didn’t show and I’m really happy with how it’s turned out. I added journaling to the left and again left space to add something else above. In the end I used a silver star from my stash and left the number 8 plain as I liked the white on white.
Day 9 wasn’t a great photo but it told a story so I decided to use it as more of a background. I used one of the star stamps from the digital version of the Christmas Star stamp set and used this to add my journaling. I embossed my number nine (this time silver) and then picked out different sizes and styles of stars from my stash.
For day 10 I went for a full spread for the day. I included a photo of cute sign I took at the local train station. To make that the focus of the photo I added a chipboard arrow and a word strip, plus a gold enamel dot star. The journaling for the day was printed with space left at the top and I added a piece of vellum I’d stamped. The filler card is a freebie I picked up from Life Love Paper last year. I struggled to find numbers that didn’t cover up too much of the card. So I went small with the numbers this time and used a silver label and added some black number stickers, and finished it off with a small gold glitter star.
